PBIA Fire Alarm Reaches Substantial Completion
After months of upgrading the fire alarm system (while keeping the old, failing system functional) and integrating the new system with all the other life-safety systems of the terminal, David Brooks Enterprises and their two primary subcontractors (WSA Systems and Davco Electrical Contractors) achieved substantial completion at the end of March. This task required extremelly careful logistic planning, since the terminal is occupied and functional 24/7/365. "The system had to be functional ever hour of every day. We couldn't just take out sections and replace them", said VP and Project Manager, Mark Davidson. "We had to be on Fire Watch any time a piece of the system was down and work around the flow of the airport."
In addition to all the normal day-time work, the task involved many nights of intense work, so the terminal could be ready every morning for the TSA security checks and early arriving passengers. "Overall, the Fire Alarm Upgrade team did a good job of making this as seamless as possible," said Phil Woodard, Project Manager for the Department of Airports.
David Brooks Enterprises, Inc. has been doing Construction Management at Risk work for the Department of Airports for nearly two years and built the new DOA Administration Building prior to their CM work.

The final graphics and wall art are still in process, but the new "cleaner and brighter" feel to the space is already evident.
